Hobo travel principles

A hobo is somebody who is homeless and frequently travels on freight trains.

Therefore, Eric and I borrow this term to refer our travel style. Of course, we take passenger trains not freight. In our previous travel experience, we tried our best to get the cheapest but decent accommodations. We take public transportation instead of driving by ourselves. If we could get a one-day or one-week pass on the public transportation, we got it. We tried to control our meal budget. Besides, we hardly bought handicrafts as souvenirs. Photo pictures are our favorite.

We call our travel style “hobo style” and we have developed our hobo travel principles.

1. Always eat all the food on your plate because you never know when you will get some more.
2. Always use the free bathroom especially when you are in Europe.
3. Travel overnight if you can. That saves you accommodation and time.
4. Take a cheap place to stay if you can find one.
5. Eat free food if you are offered some, such as the free breakfast in hotels.
6. Take the subway instead of driving.
7. Go to museums when they charge half or free admission.
8. Use the internet in a public library.
9. Buy food in a supermarket instead of a restaurant.
10. Make sure you take a good tour guide book which tells you how to find a cheap accommodation, like “Lonely Planet” or “Let’s go”.

Even though we traveled on shoestrings, it doesn’t mean we didn’t have happy trips. Life is beautiful. Enjoy your trips

PS. Thanks for Eric’s proofreading my“article”. Here “article” is a pun because I still have trouble with articles, like “a” and “the”.
